WHAT ARE THE Common TREATMENTS Options FOR SUPPURATIVA HYDRADENITIS?

The treatment for mild or acute (not chronic) Suppurativa Hydradenitis.
1. Antibiotics (oral)
First Line: for new occurrences treatment is about 7-10 days
A. Tetracycline {RX}
B. Doxycycline {RX}
B. Minocycline {RX}
C. Erythromycin {RX}
S. Clindamycin {RX}
Second Line:
A. Moxifloxacin
B. Metronidazole
C. Refampin

2. Cortisone injection {RX} into an effected area.

For people with a moderate case of Hidradenitis Suppurative
A. Oral antibiotics As Above for a period of 2 to 3 months
B. For women: drugs that block the effects of male sex hormones, such as oral contraceptives, Spironolactone {RX}, or Finasteride {RX}.
C. Incision and drainage of Abscess
D. Topical antibiotics
A. Clindamycin Cream {RX}
B. Metronidazole topical {RX}

For people with a severe case of Hidradenitis Suppurative.
A. A doctor gives Infliximab {RX} (by intravenous injection)
B. Adalimumab {RX} (by skin injection) to reduce inflammation.
C. Isotretinoin {RX} or Acitretin {RX} (by mouth), taken for several months, may reduce inflammation.
D. Skin graft.
E. Laser treatment to remove the damaged skin or hair may also be done.  

Caution:

1. All medication, including all oral antibiotics and all medications that come in lotions, ointment, and creams have a risk of side effects.

2. Possible Mild side effects are nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, itching, and light to moderate skin rash.

3. Possible Severe side effects are a severe skin rash, an anaphylactic allergic reaction (leading to the inability to breathe and subsequent death if not treated rapidly), and Clostridioides difficile infection (C. Diff.) of the colon.

4. Medications such as creams, lotions, and gels should be tested in small dosages in areas of the body that are not easily seen.



WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF AN ARMPIT ABSCESS (SUPPURATIVA HYDRADENITIS)?

The most common symptoms of Suppurativa Hydradenitis are large pustular pimple(s) in the armpit. But, a large pustular pimple (also called an abscess) of this type can also be formed in the groin skin fold, and in the area of the genitals and the anus. Often there are several abscesses occurring at the same time.

 

WHAT ARE THE CAUSE OF SUPURATIVA HYDRADENITIS?

There are over 20 different bacteria that cause Suppurativa Hydradenitis. Staphylococcus Aureus is one of the most common species of the human skin flora, occurring in approximately 25% of the time. Other bacteria that cause these abscesses are caused by bacteria in the Streptococcal family. Still other bacteria that are not in the staph or strep family have been found to cause Supurativa Hydradenitis.

 

HOW IS SUPPURATIVA HYDRADENTITIS DIAGNOSED?

Suppurativa Hydradenitis can be diagnosed by a careful history and visual inspection of the skin.
