Recently, I changed my diet from a high-protein diet (mainly red meat to low-calcium,
medium-protein, high vegetable diet.
I really wasn't expected to see much change in how I felt.
However, I was pleasantly surprised to have less arthritic pain
in my knees, back, and hand. Can or has this been proven? I don't think it has been proven--but,
I think it can be proven by measuring a person's
C- reactive protein (CRP) level--but it would cost a couple hundred dollars per
patient. A CRP level while on a high-meat diet and a level after vegetarian diet
would demonstrate this. Lower CRP while eating a vegetarian diet would be strong evidence that it is less inflammatory."
Does a BRAT diet decrease diarrhea?
BRAT stands for Banana, Rice, Apple Sause, and toast. This diet is supposed to decrease diarrhea, but
there has never been a study
on this diet to see if it really works. There was a study done on eating
green bananas (and eating cooked green bananas) that found that they did diminish
diarrhea. The truth is that every individual is different
so no one diet will work on everyone. My Best Advice is try one food at a time to see if it diminishes or increases
diarrhea.
Why Am I Sleeping Poorly?
If you are sleeping poorly after the age of 60 it might be because you have less night-time melatonin.
A scientific study found that night-time melatonin (a naturally occuring hormone)
decrease as people get older. So this would explain why older people are sleeping worse at night.
However, the day-time melatonin level did not change as people
got older. Therefore, while a low melatonin level at night can explain poor sleep among older people
(generally thought of those over 60 years old)
this can not explain why SOME older people are napping all the time during the day.
Maybe, this is simpy due to lack of stimulation during the day.
Am I exercising too much?
Have you ever asked yourself if you are exercising too much?
Well, if you have, you may need to answer the following questions.
1. Are you unable to perform at the same level 2 days after training?
2. Does your body need more than 72 hours to recover?
3. Do your muscles remain sore more than 72 hours?
4. Are you too tired to do your work 24 hours after working out?
5. Do you get frequent colds?
My answer: 1 yes. I am exercising too much. I need to cut back a little.
