WHAT ARE THE TREATMENTS FOR NAUSEA?

1. Metoclopramide (Reglan): There is a risk of tardive dyskinesia, and dystonia.
2. Ondansetron (Zofran): Zofran can Prolong QT time, which will put people at risk of a heart attack.
3. Prochlorperazine (Compazine): Possible side effects are tardive dyskinesia and dystonia.
4. Droperidol (INAPSINE): Dose is given IM or slow IV. Possible side effects are tardive dyskinesia and dystonia.
5. Promethazine (Phenergan): Oral “Phenergan” is no longer available in the United State, But, oral promethazine generic is available. Tardive dyskinesia and dystonia are possible side effects.

7. Elavil is sometime used for cyclic vomiting.
8. Erythromycin is sometime used because of it prokinetic quality.
9. Bethanical is also used occasionally because of it prokinetic quality.
Caution
1. Nausea is not always a mild disorder. Nausea that is happening for the first time with additional symptoms such as fever, abdominal pain, abdominal distention, or vomiting, should be examined in an urgent care or emergency room.
2. Some anti-nausea pills are not effective.
3. All medication, including all antibiotics, have a risk of side effects.
4. Possible Severe side effects are a severe skin rash, an anaphylactic allergic reaction
(leading to the inability to breathe and subsequent death if not treated rapidly),
and Clostridioides difficile infection (C. Diff.) of the colon.
5. Medications such as creams, lotions, and gels should be tested in small dosages in areas of the body that are not easily seen.

These causes include: stress, anxiety, motion sickness, pregnancy, a migraine, food poisoning, influenza, norovirus, irritable bowel, labyrinthitis, vestibular neuritis, thyroid disorders, medications, and some very severe illnesses like a bowel obstruction, enteric ischemia, acute pancreatitis, and myocardial infarction.
HOW IS NAUSEA DIAGNOSED?
A diagnosis can USUALLY be made from a careful history and a brief physical. Sometimes, a more extensive laboratory and physical exam are required.
